    Hello CCHRC Members,

I hope everyone’s fall hunting and testing season is off to a wonderful start. CCHRC is happy to announce we have heard back from AKC and our application has been approved! Our board of directors did a great job on getting this done especially secretary Ron Stahl handling the paper work and hundreds of emails. With this news, now we have to start thinking about planning our first hunt test. We need members to step up and take some roles in the committee and positions at the hunt test. We will need a gun captain to handle our gunners, head marshal and stake marshals along with one of the most important positions is an experienced AKC HT secretary to work with Ron Stahl in preparing and submitting the paperwork properly. There is plenty of work to do in planning and the day of the test so if you’re interested please contact the HT chairman Jason O. Smith. Also remember HT committee members get preference in MH entries. We are looking at putting the test on in the spring of 2017 in Lost Hills at the CRTA Goose Lake training grounds so we will need to get planning and preparing fast. A lot of us members have been attending other clubs test for years, so remember it’s time for us to return the favor and do the hard work to put a test on for the other clubs to attend. CCHRC had a great reputation for putting on one of the best NAHRA test in the west, let’s carry that tradition on.

Other news, don’t forget to sign up for our training day November 5th, all the info is on the web page here. With the holidays coming up CCHRC has usually held a club holiday party, whether hosted at some ones house or a restaurant. If we have a member or members who are interested in planning one please contact Jason O. Smith.

Board of director elections are coming up soon, we will be sending forms out for nominations November 1st and voting by email December 1-31st. If you’re interested in a position or know someone who is please nominate them or yourselves. All positions are available President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure and Members at large (3).

One other thing we would like to try this coming year is members sharing the planning and setting up of training days. It will be your responsibility to come up with location, dates, training set up and organization of the day. If you have an interest in organizing a day please let one of the board members know.

We would like to hold other events besides training days next year also so if you have an idea or interest in being a lead in an event please let us know. We would love to get back to holding a super singles and maybe a WC/ WCX.

One last thing the club is also looking for fundraising ideas, besides putting on events like HT’s and super singles we would like to explore other ideas to repair, replace and buy new equipment we will need for these events. So if you would like to help out in seeking donations or planning fundraising, lets us know.

As always if you have any questions or ideas for the club please let us know, remember the club can only be has good and active as its members.

We hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of summer and you are finding ways to stay cool on what looks to be just the beginning of a hot summer!  We are happy to say that we have heard from AKC and things are progressing nicely.   The AKC has requested several changes to your Bylaws and a change to the club name.

So we will be holding a meeting on July 9th at which time we will be voting on the new By-Laws and the updated club name that will be used for AKC events.

The following link is to the new Bylaws please review and if you cannot attend the meeting please let us know your vote for the changes. Also below is the agenda for the July 9th meeting if you have anything you would like to add to the agenda please let us know.

    Hello CCHRC members,

First of all I would like to start this June newsletter off congratulating all our members who had a successful spring hunt test season.  It was quite a pleasure watching your dogs grow in training and at events whether you’re striving for your next Master National or faithful hunting partner.

As we are feeling the heat of summer upon us it can be tough to get any club events scheduled with the heat and/or busy family summer schedules.  We are going to try and schedule a couple early morning short training events in SLO County locally for those who would like to attend over the summer.  The club has gained access to a new property with a pond in northern SLO County, so hopefully we can make use of it on some morning water work then have a nice BBQ lunch to discuss club business.  All information will be posted on the club website, so stay tuned.

As for other club news, we have not heard back from AKC on our club approval yet. When we do and hopefully soon you will be the first to know. We then can begin our planning of our AKC hunt test next spring which will take all of us to pull off successfully.

The club has also received another batch of flyers both pigeons and ducks for your training needs, so if you would like to make sure the next time your dog sees a live flyer isn’t at a fall hunt test or opening day of hunting season please contact Jason Smith for pick up, prices will remain the same as they were this spring.

Unfortunately we had to cancel the Bill Hillman seminar, and we understand everyone’s spring season can be busy, full of dog and personal reasons. If you have an interest attending in the future please let Ron Stahl know and we will try to reschedule this event to accommodate more individual schedules both club and non-club members.

As always, if you have any ideas or suggestions for club events, training locations and questions about what we are doing please contact one of the board of directors. This is yourclub we were elected to serve you the members in trying to bring you what you need and want out of your retriever club as a group. So if you don’t tell us we don’t know.

Hopefully we will see you and your dogs soon,

    Hi and happy holidays!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and for the hunting members I hope that you are getting opportunities to spend some time in the field with your two and four legged friends hunting the birds of your choice.

The board for directors had a meeting before Thanksgiving and I am happy to report that we have put together the calendar for the first half of next year.  We are working on locations for these events and will announce the locations as soon as possible.

As most of you know the board has discussed becoming affiliated with AKC for many years.  At our meeting on November 21st it was decided we would pursue this goal and in just two short weeks we have made great progress towards this goal.  One of the requirements of the application process requires that we provide a roster of our members with a couple of additional items.  The additional items needed are “Number of years participation in Sporting Dog events”, and if you have judging certifications they would like to know which certifications you have and the number of years you have been judging.   We have updated our member profile page to collect this information so you can enter it here by logging into WWW.CCHRC.Com and clicking the edit profile button or if it is easier you can also replay to this email and we will update your profile for you.  The sooner we have this information the sooner we can complete the registration process for becoming an AKC club.

Work has been completed on the redesign of  It has been over 5 years sense the last update and technology wise it was over due.  The new layout is mobile friendly and adapts to the size of your screen so it is readable on even the smallest of devices.  Hopefully this will help those of you that no longer use PC’s to get to the Internet.

On November 29, CCHRC members completed the assembly of the clubs new bird pen.   This pen will allow the club to collect and maintain pigeons, ducks and pheasant for training days and events and allow us to purchase birds when prices are lower.  As the saying goes "it take birds to make a bird dog" and this should allow us to have birds available at most club gatherings.

If you have not already, be sure to checkout our Facebook page.  This is a great location to stay in touch and get last minute information on what is going on with CCHRC and it members.

The first membership renewal notice will be sent out December 12th, dues for 2016 will remain $30 for the year and are due by January 1st.  With all the things we have planed for 2016 it is important that we have everyone’s support, so please have your renewal in as soon as possible.  Membership renewal can be processed here on our website.

Lastly, board elections are coming soon and we are looking for nomination for all positions.  If you or someone you know is interest in a position on the board please contact us as soon as possible so we can add you/them to the ballot.

2016 is shaping up to be an exciting year for CCHRC and we all look forward to seeing you all soon at a future training event!

    Ron Stahl

On November 17, 2011 at their public meeting in Santa Barbara the Commission on Fish & Game will be considering proposed regulations that would have an impact on dog training, testing and training uses in the DFG wildlife areas traditionally used by many private trainers and California retriever clubs for hunt tests and field trials.

Information regarding the hearing, the agenda, and a link to the proposed language can be found at

The first hearing will be at the Veteran's Memorial Building Auditorium, 112 West Cabrillo Blvd., Santa Barbara, at 8:30 am, Thursday, November 17.

Comments can be emailed to the Fish & Game Commission at

If you have a concern about this issue we encourage you to write and/or appear at the meeting to oppose adoption of the current proposed language.  We also encourage you to involve your own retriever club(s) and seek their letters of opposition.
